No sooner on my feet than out the door.
I'll be reading at Robin's in Philly this evening with Cindy Savett. Then heading to Chicago on Friday for the final leg of the case sensitive tour.
If, in the weeks ahead, you find yourself in Chicago, Iowa City, Lincoln, Tulsa or Norman, OK, or St. Louis (that'll be "The 8 Kates") or Boston or NYC or Binghamton, NY, I hope you'll come out and say hi--I'll be reading with some great people. All the details are here.
I said I would answer my own first-book interview questions. Haven't gotten to it. One thing I'd say about having a first book published is that if you try to do everything that you think your book wants you to do (in order to find whoever would like to read it but doesn't know that yet), you may become a person who doesn't answer a letter for months (for instance)--while meaning to, wanting to, mentally composing it (again!) in the dead of the night. Many things will suffer from neglect, some will need to be abandoned.
I've decided to stop blogging altogether for the time being. If this is your first-ever visit to Every Other Day, thanks for coming. The archives index will take you to my earliest posts (August 2005) and my most recent (January 2008) and all points inbetween. If you're a repeat offender, thank you for having had my blog on your regular route.

early February
Hello. I've been sick. Doing better, but not yet all the way well. I won't be blogging for a while.

A precautionary statement. Where salvation also grows. It gave me unconscious hope. It gave my father hope.
They make up a story out of life. We all do it. Danger is a keyword. Danger is a New Year's resolution.
Sitting with the pictures of the dead. An indicated action will result, could result. As thunder is a sign of storm. As a full stop signifies the end of a sentence.

Park Slope , this afternoon
Sommer Browning will read from her new chapbook Vale Tudo, hot off the press from Horseless.
Special guest Katy Henriksen will do some translations with me.
Josh Harmon can't make it today but Dan Magers will stand in for him. Dan will be reading from his chapbook Exploitation Poems, which depicts imaginary scenes & characters from '80s slasher movies and (Dan says, rather lurid) material from evangelical literature. Sounds fun, right?

Iowa on my mind.
For various reasons. I heard from Jane Gregory the other day, for one thing. Which was nice, because I like Jane. (And I like her writing. Hope you got a copy of The Second Is Thirst from Cannibal Books before it sold out.) I didn't know she was out in Iowa City at the famous Writers' Workshop. Jane told me that she was in Prairie Lights and heard Jan Weissmiller say my name to someone on the phone. This made me feel pretty famous!
I'm excited about reading at Prairie Lights in March with Kate Northrop. Being in Iowa City will also give me the opportunity to finally meet my email friend Sandy Dyas. Her first book, Down to the River: Portraits of Iowa Musicians came out recently from University of Iowa Press. Sandy and I talk about the book here.
Sandy's known mostly as a photographer, but she makes other kinds of art as well, including videos. I think I'm one of the few people who can claim to have a library of Dyas videos! I hope that changes someday. Meanwhile, she has put her Bo Ramsey video up on youtube, in 2 parts: In the Weeds and Living in a Cornfield. Have a look. (And if you need to see it bigger and louder, contact Sandy directly to buy it on VHS.)
