Q: What are 3 things that you think make for strong writing?

I was going to leave it at that, letting the pictures speak for themselves. But then I asked Max to interpret them, just to see what would happen. He looked for a minute and said, "Faith, Discipline, and Genius." Then, "Or... breaking open, having a regular practice, and taking the steps necessary to pull away from your excuses." I wrote down his answers and asked if he had a third set. He could do this all day. "Daring, love of sentences, hatred of cliches."
There isn't something I could say in words that would be what I meant by the pictures--the pictures are what I meant. But I could interpret them too, like anybody else. I'd say: Naked exploration, having the patience to develop, and finding a portable yet stable means to rise above the surface far enough to see a pattern.
